In June we took our camper over on the Miller Ferry to camp at the South Bass Island State Park. This was our first time on the Miller Ferry with our camper and it was a bit scary! But the staff was great and very helpful and we got on and off the ferry with no issues.
We loved South Bass Island! What a great place to visit. The campground was pretty nice, but the sites are very tight. You have to really maneuver between trees and poles. The views from the campground are spectacular and nightly everyone lines up at the shore line to see the sunset. It's unforgettable. There is also some very interesting history about the campground. The site was once where the Victory Hotel stood. At one time that hotel was the largest in the United States.
Bring your golf cart if you can. It's the best way to get around the island. Be aware though your golf cart counts as a vehicle and you are only allowed one vehicle per camp site. There is ample overflow parking. If you don't have a golf cart there are plenty to rent and there are also multiple taxi services.
One complaint we have with the campground is the dump station. It is terrible. It's in a very tight area, hard to get in and out. We had one of those disasters you never want to happen, our hose pulled out and crap went everywhere! We strongly recommend getting full hook up so you don't have to deal with the dump station!
Over all we had a fantastic time. I spent my 60th birthday on the island. It was great.
