The Scharnhorst, a German battleship, faced her last battle on December 26, 1943, during the Battle of the North Cape. Tasked with intercepting Allied Arctic convoys, she encountered a powerful British force led by HMS Duke of York and multiple escort ships. Outgunned and outnumbered, Scharnhorst fought valiantly but was disadvantaged by British radar technology and overwhelming firepower.

Despite severe damage, including shattered turrets and reduced speed, Admiral Erich Bey urged his crew to continue fighting with the words, "We will fight on, even if we go to the bottom."
