During this year’s Noites de Queluz Festival in Lisbon, on 31 October, was revealed the world
premiere in modern times of a hidden treasure of Italian Baroque Music: the Serenata “La Contesa
delle stagioni” by Domenico Scarlatti.
The only extant manuscript of this rarity had been discovered
by Massimo Mazzeo who is leading here Divino Sospiro, one of the finest Portuguese period
instrument orchestras.
Dedicated to the Seasons, Scarlatti’s Serenata sees Roberta Mameli starring
as “Summer”, Arianna Vendittelli as “Spring”, Filippo Mineccia as “Winter” and Juan Sancho as
“Autumn”.
The work premiered on 7 September 1720 in Lisbon, thus celebrating this year its 300th anniversary (!!)
