I love the precision of tactical rifle scope reticles, and for years I dreamed of trying the Horus H59. Is it as amazing as I had imagined?

Over the past few months my friends and I have used the H59 reticle in the Bushnell HDMR-II to estimate distances and put accurate fire on small targets. The H59 works as advertised; precise measurements and quick target engagements. Pair that perfect Horus reticle with the reliable tracking and gorgeous glass of the Bushnell HDMR 2, and you end up with a scope that I really don't want to send back after this testing period.

The HDMR2 is built on a 34mm tube, so it offers 30 MRAD of elevation adjustment and likely a thicker and tougher tube than the average tactical scope. The 3.5-21x50mm form factor lets in a lot of light, and it continues to do so after the sun has set. You also get a very flexible zoom range, meaning that you can realistically take shots at any distance - near or far. No matter what magnification you choose, the Horus H59 sits in the first focal plane and measures true. In fact, if you need to take an extreme long range shot, you can zoom all the way out and combine the reticles 40 milliradians of elevation with the 30 MRAD you get from the turret.

Those turrets features some neat tricks. The windage knob sits on a locking turret; just pull out to adjust, then push back in to lock. The elevation turret includes an adjustable zero stop. Both cover 10 milliradians per turn.

Costing roughly $1,500, the Bushnell HDMR-II FFP scope is not cheap. But its price tags falls well below its H59-bearing competition, which includes exotic European scopes and the Leupold Mark 6.
