Lean Principle Simulation
"House of Cards" version 1.2

Your feedback is welcome and appreciated! Please let us know if you would like to use this in a group setting, or if you have any suggestions to improve fun, playability, application of lean concepts.

This is a simulation designed to stimulate thought of lean processes in a group setting. It is simple, requires minimal resources, and is easily scalable from small to large groups.

Click the below link to read the paper based on this Lean Simulation, as presented at the 2017 International Group for Lean Construction (IGLC).

Were the directions and setup easy to understand?

Does this simulation help understand lean principles and their application to the construction industry?

Which lean principles were demonstrated by this simulation?

Which phases improved collaboration, kaizen, 5S, waste minimization?

Did your team improve (shorten) the performance time from phase 1 through 6? If not, why not?

Do you have any recommendations to improve this simulation? (how to make it more fun, incorporate other lean principles?)

Are you interested in using this simulation (or something like it) to stimulate lean thinking in a group setting?

Notes:
*** In this simulation, we apply the principles to the construction industry. The simulation can easily be adapted to apply the same principles to business and other industries as well.

*** This simulation does not define the lean concepts or construction. The goal is to intuitively discover the principles and how they improve performance through a simple game played with three players and a deck of playing cards.

*** A fourth player is recommended to observe, record, and keep time. If used in a group setting with a facilitator, an assistant is recommended to compile and compare group times.
