How Auburn’s 2022 recruiting class compares

Описание к видео How Auburn’s 2022 recruiting class compares

When June started, Auburn’s new coaching staff had 30 days to show recruits in-person what its new program was all about. While it hosted hundreds of recruits on unofficial visits and 21 recruits on official visits, Auburn came out of the recruiting period with no more commits than it started with. A few days later, it earned three commitments in three days, and as of the morning of July 8, it had six commits in the class of 2022 and was ranked last in the SEC. Auburn still has 160 days to make up ground before recruits can start signing on December 15. The recruiting landscape has changed a lot with the pandemic and the one-time transfer rule, so anything can happen before then, and just a few commitments could make a difference. A number of recruits said after the visit that they want to see coach Bryan Harsin in action. They are waiting to see how Auburn’s first season goes and what changes it makes, which means they won’t be committing for several more months. Auburn’s ranking is currently low because of how few players have committed. In terms of quality, Auburn is actually ninth in the SEC with a rating of 0.8880. That average, however, is also skewed by how few commitments Auburn has. Here’s a look at Auburn’s recruiting numbers in comparison to other schools around the SEC and the opponents it has on its schedule. Auburn is ranked last in 247Sports’ SEC rankings for the class of 2022. Its class ranking is ranked ninth. It has the fewest commits at four commits. However, with four-star quarterback Holden Geriner, Auburn has more four-stars than Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. This is how SEC rankings for the class of 2022 currently stand in the SEC:One major element at play for Auburn is the turnover of the coaching staff. When Gus Malzahn was fired and Harsin was hired to replace him, just one coach, running backs coach Cadillac Williams, survived the change. Harsin came from a Group of Five school, Boise State, and brought a number of coaches and staff members with him. However, he also made an effort to add coaches with SEC recruiting experience like offensive and defensive coordinators Mike Bobo and Derek Mason. But Auburn isn’t the only program that’s experienced upheaval in the SEC or the country. Here’s how Auburn compares to other schools who have new head coaches, including the school Harsin left and the school Malzahn went to (schools not ranked by 247Sports are not included):This is the first year any of the recruits can make an impact on the field. However, they will be freshmen, so their roles will probably be limited. Here’s how Auburn’s recruiting compares to its 2022 opponents:In 2024, the class of 2022 will be juniors. They will be upperclassmen for the first time and may start stepping into leadership and starting roles. 2024 is a long way off, so things can change a lot before then. Players may transfer, and Auburn may score in the transfer portal.
