San Diego is reeling once again after another tragic small plane crash — the second in less than a month.

On Sunday, June 8th, a small twin-engine Cessna 414 carrying six people crashed into the ocean just three miles off Sunset Cliffs. The plane was heading to Phoenix when it went down shortly after takeoff.

Multiple agencies — including the U.S. Coast Guard, San Diego Fire-Rescue, and local lifeguards — launched an immediate search operation.

So far, none of the six people on board have been found.

This is the second deadly plane crash in San Diego in just over two weeks. On May 22nd, six people lost their lives when a Cessna Citation went down in Kearny Mesa. Families are devastated — and they deserve answers.

The waters where the plane went down yesterday are over 200 feet deep, making recovery efforts incredibly difficult. Debris and an oil sheen were found, but the investigation is just beginning.

It's unknown what caused the crash at this time, however, the National Transportation Safety Board and FAA are investigating.

According to an NBC News report, a surfer witnessed the plane come crash.

The man said “I saw him come down at angle. He wasn’t flying straight to the ground. The next time he came out of the clouds, he went straight into the water. Full throttle.”

The families affected by an aviation tragedy deserve answers. They have the right to know what happened — and to hold those responsible accountable.
