In a significant development on Friday, the Supreme Court made it clear that Justice Yashwant Verma will not be assigned any judicial duties upon assuming his new role as a Judge of the Allahabad High Court.

The clarification comes shortly after the Centre issued a notification regarding Justice Verma's transfer, which has been clouded by controversy. The controversy stems from an incident on March 14, when a large stash of burnt cash was allegedly discovered in a storeroom attached to his bungalow in the national capital, following a fire-fighting operation.
