The Gorsebug Piezodorus lituratus is one of several large green-coloured shieldbugs to be found in the UK. Perhaps not surprisingly these insects are to be found on Gorse Ulex europaeus, Broom Cytisus scoparius and other related leguminous plants. Adults are slightly olive-green in colour with a narrow yellow surround but it is entirely possible that a Green Shieldbug Palomena prasina might also turn up on these plants. As the colours of the adults may vary according to the season some care may be required with identification, but note that the nymphs of all of the green species are entirely different to one another. The recent arrival of the Southern Green Shieldbug Nezara viridula has added another possible confusion species to the British list.
