Cruising Slovenia is an episode in which we drive through the Slovenian Alps towards the famous Ljubelj Pass, border with Austria.

We start our journey just after leaving the A2 highway, also known as the E61, at exit number 7 around village of Naklo. And continue our way on the provincial roads towards the town of Tržič. Just before entering Tržič we enter the E652 a road crossing through the Alps on the border between the Kamnik-Savinja Alps on the East and the Karawanke range on the West, we head North towards famous Ljubelj pass (German: Loibl Pass) and border with Austria. All along we will have the rising sun on our back casting long and deep shadows in the narrow valleys and lite up the snow on higher altitudes. The Ljubelj pass is a known location as a drive through for those whom pass the border with Austria as well a location for exciting hiking and biking trails.

Just before we reach the pass we will pass by the memorial of notorious Loibl subcamp. A place that will reminds us of the atrocities that took place during the second world war. The 1570 m (5150 ft) long tunnel was built at 1068 m (3505 ft) above sea level under the command of Nazi's to bypass the steep upper parts of the mountain road, the original Ljubelj pass.
Employed were 660 civilian workers, as well 1652 forced labourers supplied by the SS(Nazi's). These prisoners were interned in two subcamps of the Mauthausen concentration camp, one on each side of the pass.
At the site of this former concentration camp is a monument, visible on our right hand side at 12:45 and the remnants: foundations of the camp on our left.

We end our trip at the parking just before entering Austria with a wonder full view on a snowcapped mount ridge Begunjščica part of the Karawanks range with 3 peaks, and starting point of some several trails to the summits.
