Day 214. 55km (66652kms)

Autumn is here! At last; I slept a whole night in my thin summer sleeping bag! Waking early with the muezzins again I watched through the tent mesh a steady stream of planes on their way to Dubai (I assume).

In Sohar John and I poked about the fish market and found the vendors to be very friendly. Later, as we rode, drivers would pull up along side to chat. Everyone wants to know where we’re from, as Brits we’re both getting used to replying England again after having to use our secondary citizenships through Iran.

John was very patient with me as I spent my customary 2 hours online, by which stage we were both ready for a second breakfast. Sohar’s highly renovated fort provided a nice backdrop for our meal, before we set off for the day properly at midday.

We stopped at occasional tumble down mud towers, and accepted an invitation for chai which turned out to be more saffron than tea I think! As the sun approached the watery horizon we were short of my planned campsite, but wild camping is legal in Oman so it was simply a case of picking another spot on the beach.

Unlike Iran, I’m yet to see any camels here. But on seeing camel milk in the shop I couldn’t resist the opportunity for a cup of camel milk tea with dinner. Perhaps unsurprisingly it tastes a little like a camel smells!
