1972 Gibson Les Paul Recording | Mothership Gear

Welcome to Mothership Gear where we invite musicians to hang at the studio and bring over their favorite or most unique pieces of gear. Today's host is Spencer Alfonso the creative Director and co-owner of Ildefonso, Inc. We're joined by our guest Hanz Ives and his rare 1972 Gibson Les Paul Recording electric guitar. Hanz Ives is a singer-songwriter, musician and producer.

Fortunately we have access to the original manual/advertisement by Gibson, so we were able to test Gibson's copy against Hanz' guitar and experience with the instrument. Spencer and Hanz break down several of the unique features of this special guitar.

Impedance Switch:
"Your Les Paul Recording guitar is equipped with a unique switch that enables you to use either a “high” or “low” impedance amplifier without the use of a special transformer cable.
In most cases, you will probably be using a high impedance guitar amplifier."

A Decade Control Switch that, "controls “tunes” or alters the treble harmonics."

Phase Switch which has two positions that offers both “in phase” and “out phase” tonalities.

Low Impedance Pickups that Gibson claims: "The pickup height, in relation to the strings, has been carefully adjusted to produce maximum performance."
