The highlight of the festival is the grand procession, presided over by the royal family of Mysuru, featuring decorated elephants, state swords, and traditional rituals that symbolize the city's historic role as a protector of good. The Mysore Palace, adorned with thousands of lights, serves as the centerpiece of the celebration, enchanting visitors with its splendor.

Dating back to the 15th century, the tradition of celebrating Dasara with grandeur began under the Vijayanagara Empire and has only grown in scale, with the festival crossing its 409th anniversary in 2019.
