I never thought I'd be covering a Slipknot song, but hearing this song over and over it became inevitable. I realized Slipknot is PERFECT gym music and I must've heard this song enough there for it to really get me. It became where I HAD to cover it. There didn't seem to be any backing tracks I could play along to (at least original tracks) so I asked some musicians I know and super grateful they were up to the task. Some never even knew the song which is even more impressive! So thank you Matt, Anthony, and Jason for playing on this. And of course Brian for putting the sweetened touches to the final mix. Matt mixed the hell out of this and just a reminder to put on some cans and listen to it in all its glory. Much more worth it!

Drum-wise this is just incredibly fun to play. You can't go wrong with a slamming 4 on the floor groove especially with a guitar riff like this. I learned to appreciate Joey Jordinson's drumming so much more through just this song alone. It's clever, creative, has hooks, and he'll pull out an insane fill on a moment's notice (03:44 and 04:26). These are just combos of 2's and 4's with the hands and 2's with the feet but VERY fast. I will add the transcription in some shorter vids soon.

One of my favorite parts is the hook during the prechorus - the china hit (he might actually be playing two hits but I'm hearing one) into the descending toms. Not difficult but very creative and slick. 01:15

Another hook is the doubling of the main guitar riff on the toms, ending on the perfect snare/bass drum combo on "4+" 00:46

JJ was so good add constructing this drum part even at the very beginning of the song. The space he uses for the first few hits between toms, the single china note, flam on snare/bass drum and THEN into a slick stuttering double bass groove with syncopated snare hits lining up and complimenting the guitars perfectly. A build up on the snare with some double stroke rolls and into a money 4 up two down sextuplet roll around the toms into the 4 on the floor groove - Perfection!

Let's not forget the breakdown 02:49 where he's driving with the bass drum but playing the snare mostly with the guitars except for the stack (that I'm using-he played hihats I believe) that sometimes is in unison with the guitars but sometimes not. The last fill before the halftime groove is a nice touch doubling the snare with doublebass 03:02 In the halftime section, it's basically the same riff but JJ is not playing a full halftime groove with doublebass instead 3:04

Now for the percussion! I have to thank my friend Doug for letting me borrow his high school's marching snare. And Bunnyman Brewing for the empty keg! I even had to borrow a neighbor's bat...! For the extra bass drum, you can see that I took another kit's bass drum and played it on its side. Thank you Eddie for being a part of this...
