Описание к видео In progress, Rachel and Cabochon from book. First look at creating faces i paint them layer by layer

Creating both the cabochon from ''Little Bronze Ghosts'' book, and also the character Rachel from book together. Right - cabochon and face are both in same stage - shaped, before polishing.

This is the first time i have shared how i create my faces, some i have experimented in hard and soft clay, but most are this, sheet wax cut out base. Wax applied to it is a special blend of - beeswax, hard sticky sprue wax, olive oil, and sheet wax. All mixed and boiled in pot and let cool.

Then a ''core'' of this special blend wax is applied to base. So 75% of the face or whatever i'm working on is this puddy-like wax into rough shape i'm envisioning then the rest is painted, scraped, and rubbed with back of dental spatula to smooth and shape.

After cooled puddy-wax not too soft or firm, i paint on layers of molten wax by holding dental tool with a scraping of wax on it to flame then applying with techniques, over and over, then scraping away, using back of dental paddle as seen on right to smooth the ridges seen in center photo. The black seen is from wax being held to flame also becomes much harder.

And great degree of forgiveness can be controlled by using different types of wax in regards to holding them to flame, and duration. Each wax type will melt faster or slower and has its own set of properties beeswax for example is more runny at any temp. control of application is usually within .5mm before carving it finer or applying more.

Also when molten wax can be pulled like drawing, especially at certain temps. In the end to make it smooth like skin, i run hot tap water over my fingertip then rub, then put in freezer again and again.

By painting on layer by layer i feel it forces your personality out making it impossible to not look distinctive - your spirit, i feel strongly this leaves behind a small piece of you, a shadow of your personality/spirit, i want to leave behind as much of myself as i can, its the only choice for me.

Rock is typical Porphyritic Basalt from Mid-Continental Rift, 1.1 Billion years old. In between Jasper and Nephrite Jade in terms of toughness.
