The speaker reflects on the choice to leave the temple and start a life with the woman he loved, describing the act of making love outside of wedlock as both selfish, for turning his back on the temple, and unselfish, as it was done out of true love. He felt he was with the person to whom he belonged and accepted the duty to care for her and their unborn child.

After leaving the temple, his life quickly filled with the ways of the "ego and the flesh". His diet changed from vegetarian to carnivorous, and he worked hard to provide for his family, craving protein by the pound. The long days of hard physical work altered many of the habits he learned at the temple, and he had very little time to meditate and pray. He felt he had "truly become a man of the world again".

Despite being exiled from the temple, the speaker led a very meaningful life. He and his wife had many more children and he remained dedicated to her and his family for the rest of his life. They stayed happy and in love, enjoying many more romantic nights in the sand that were "just as magical as the first". The speaker's dedication to their togetherness was "far stronger than my life at the temple".

He allowed the flesh to find its pleasures of romance under the guidance of the spirit, finding that his love for this woman became the balance of the spirit and ego in that lifetime. He believes his time at the temple prepared him for the commitment he made to her. Unlike previous lifetimes, he never felt any type of shame for the choices he made.

The speaker does not believe the choice to be exiled from the temple was his to make, as he was not in a frame of mind to choose between the temple and his lover. He states the choice was made for him because he was not going to give up his lover and their child. Although they forced him to leave, the teachings of the temple never left him. He felt the balance of ego and spirit working together to be "a man of flesh under the guidance of the spirit". He considers this a lifetime to pattern future lifetimes after.

The speaker refers to the woman as a "goddess who posed as a temptress" and longs for her to re-enter his life in future lifetimes. He calls what he experienced with her "total and complete," and while he has had many soul connections, he can recall only one true soulmate. She changed his life in ways he did not know were possible, and his heart will forever be searching for that love. He believes that when the truth finally comes, it will take him back to his "true origin of all that is pure, where we shall return together in love".
