Should You Declaw Your Cat?

Dr. Lera talks about the increasingly controversial topic of cat declawing (onychectomy). He also provides some alternatives that might help your cat to stop scratching your furniture & keep them busy.

Dr. Lera’s recommendation is to NOT declaw your cat.

As of 01/17/2020, declawing is still LEGAL in the state of Florida. However, there is a bill that was recently introduced in the Florida senate that would make it illegal to declaw cats for non-therapeutic reasons. The bill seems to mirror the New York legislation that was the first anti-declaw law in the nation.
