[자우림이 전하는 곡 배경]
뻬옹뻬옹은 저희 집 막내 고양이 뻬옹이를 모티브로 한 곡입니다.

대답을 잘 하고 서랍을 잘 열고 장난감과 메이크업 브러쉬를 잘 훔쳐가는 애교 많은 장난꾸러기 뻬옹이는 앨범이 나오는 2021년 11월에 만으로 두 살이 됩니다.

뻬옹이는 선천적으로 신장 조직이 생성되지 않았습니다.

처음 뻬옹이의 신장을 검사해주신 선생님은 녀석의 기대 수명이 아주 많이 짧다고 말씀하셨습니다.

일단 인연을 맺은 녀석들은 저승으로 보내줄 때까지 무조건 제가 데리고 살아간다는 생각이고 최대한 이별이 늦춰질 수 있도록 할 수 있는 모든 일을 하고 있습니다. 흔적만 있는 신장의 기능을 보조할 수 있도록 녀석은 매일 아침 저녁 3종류의 약을 먹고 있습니다.

그렇지만 뻬옹이 자신은 언제나 느긋하고 사랑스럽고 장난스럽고 말을 많이 합니다.

오늘 제가 집에서 나올 때는 애절하게 가지 말라고 붙잡더군요.
(엄마, 라던가 네~, 라던가 말 할 때도 있습니다. 진짜로. )

뻬옹이가 열 살까지만 살아 줬으면 좋겠습니다.
물론 알 수 없지요 제가 먼저일지 뻬옹이가 먼저일지 지금은 알 수 없지요.

생명이 있는 것들은 영원하지 못 해 덧없고 아름답습니다. 애절합니다.

이 곡에 이번 앨범에서 제가 가장 좋아하는 문장이 나옵니다.

‘ 그 누구도 살아있는 동안엔 춤을 추는 것이오. ’

살아 있는 동안에는 춤을 추어야 합니다.
살아 있는 동안에 밖에 춤을 출 수 없으니까요.

조그마한 털뭉치 뻬옹이를 동물의 왕 사자 ( Le Carnaval des Animaux : Introduction et marche royale du lion ) 와 같은 선상에 놓고 편곡했습니다.

The motif for the song PÉON PÉON is a cat of the same name, the youngest one in our house.
Péon is a sweet and mischievous little guy that loves to talk back, open up the drawers in our house and run off with my makeup brushes. As of November 2021 and the release of the new album, he’s now two years old.

Péon has a congenital defect that prevents his body from producing kidney tissue. When we first took Péon to the vet to look at his kidneys, the doctor said that he wouldn’t be able to live for very long.

As he’s a part of the family, we are doing everything we can to take care of him and to delay his departure to the other world for as long as we possibly can. To help out with the function of his almost non-existent kidneys, we give him three types of medicine every morning and every evening.

And despite all of this, Péon is always the same: easy-going, adorable, playful, and talkative. He grabbed on to me just today to try to get me to stay when I was trying to leave the house. (And he even sometimes says things like ‘eomma’ (mom) and ‘ne~’ (yes) to me, I swear!)

I hope that Péon will manage to live at least to the age of ten.

But who knows? Maybe I’ll go first, or he’ll go first; it’s impossible to tell.

Living things are not immortal; they are ephemeral and beautiful. This is the pathos of life.
This song is the one that contains the phrase I like the most out of all the lyrics on the album: ‘While we live, we all dance. ’

As long as we’re still alive, we should dance.
Because life is the only period of time in which we can do it.

I took my fluffy little furball Péon and arranged this song to depict him on the same scale as the lion in the classic Le Carnaval des Animaux: Introduction et marche royale du lion.
