In the dusty town of Virginia City Ben Cartwright and his three sons Adam Hoss, and Little Joe faced a new threat to the Ponderosa Ranch. A ruthless businessman Thaddeus Morgan aimed to take over their land using any means necessary.

One evening Morgan's men ambushed Hoss in town but Adam and Little Joe arrived just in time to save him. The Cartwrights then devised a plan to expose Morgan's illegal activities. With the help of Sheriff Coffee they gathered evidence and presented it at a town meeting.

Confronted by the townsfolk and unable to deny his wrongdoings, Morgan was arrested. The Cartwrights returned to the Ponderosa their bond stronger than ever knowing they had protected their home once again.
