Madeira Airport (LPMA/FNC), also known as Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport, is located on the small Portuguese island of Madeira, birthplace of the famous football player Cristiano Ronaldo. The airport is well-known for its challenging approach path, which is complicated by mountainous terrain and strong gusty winds. The airport is also an engineering feat with over 1000 meters of runway held by dozens of pillars strong enough to support landing and departing aircraft.
