Question: We would want an unbiased word about some modern callers whom have passed away such as Hasan al-Bannâ and Sayyid Qutb. Some say that you say one thing while others say that you say another thing. We would want a word based upon knowledge and Sharî'ah regarding this.

Imâm al-Albânî: We embark in accordance with the words of Allâh (tabârak wa ta'âlâ):

"O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allâh and be just witnesses and let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just: that is nearer to piety, and fear Allâh."

(The Qur'ân 5:8, interpretation of the meanings)

Based upon this, we do not deprive any caller of his rights. We neither fall into downplay nor exaggeration in regards to him.

I deem that Hasan al-Bannâ had a good impact on the Muslim youths who were drowned in sins and western customs such as music and cinemas. He gathered them to a party that we are not satisfied with because... [The sound disappears here]1.... he called them to stick to the Qur'ân and Sunnah and Islâm he had knowledge of. He benefited and his call was spread through the Muslim world. This is what we worship Allâh with in regards to his call. However, we do not have any extreme attitude towards him, which his party has. He unfortunately had no knowledge of the Qur'ân and the Sunnah. He did not call to the Qur'ân and Sunnah in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (predecessors). I recently said that there is not a single group who denies that one should stick to the Qur'ân and Sunnah. Every group, regardless of how deviant it is, such as the Shî'ah and Khawârij, say that they follow the Qur'ân and Sunnah, not to mention that Hasan al-Bannâ, Sayyid Qutb and those who follow them say it. Even they claim that they follow the Qur'ân and Sunnah. We can unfortunately still not see that they as a group, al-Ikhwân al-Muslimûn, openly and explicitly proclaim that they are following the Qur'ân and Sunnah in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf. They are content with calling to Islâm, the Qur'ân and Sunnah in a general way. We therefore know now that al-Ikhwân al-Muslimûn call towards Islâm in accordance to the methodology of Hasan al-Bannâ even if it were to be tied with the Qur'ân and Sunnah. It is however general and lacks any detailing. This is also in regards to the 'Aqîdah (creed). They do not announce that they follow the creed of the Salaf in a detailed way. They perhaps say it generally. What we see in many countries al-Ikhwân al-Muslimûn are present in, is that they are content with the fact that each and every one follows Islâm in accordance with his own understanding. al-Ikhwân al-Muslimûn unify Salafiyyah and Khalafiyyah, that is to say the one who subscribes to the Salaf and the one who does it to the Khalaf. They maybe even include Shî'ah in their group.
