Many women who have experienced violence require support beyond the typical length of stay at an emergency shelter, but there are not enough second stage shelters across the country to meet this need. In this webinar on December 14, 2020, two innovative approaches to providing longer-term transitional housing for women who have experienced violence were presented. Timmins and Area Women in Crisis (TAWC) shared the story of their second stage shelter, which was born out of a unique partnership between three women’s organizations and the District Social Services Administration Board. Linda Olsen, from the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (WSCADV), shared their innovative Domestic Violence Housing First model and the lessons they’ve learned over more than a decade of implementation.
