Finance PhD Yolanda Yang talks about her PhD scholarship so far with the CMCRC and how it's different from other programs.

I talked to my lecturer in Finance and he referred me to CMCRC. As he said, CMCRC would be a good choice for me because it gives me industry exposure while I'm doing research.

So for me, I was working in banking and I'm very interested in investment so I showed my inclination, my great interest in that topic and probably I will be assigned or get enrolled in a project about portfolio management or investment. Now I'm doing the very preliminary research in the China stock market.

The $50,000 CMCRC scholarship is actually great because for my understanding, the average PhD student cannot get so much or probably only half of the scholarship only as a student. But here we've got the work experience with the sponsors. It's really an advantage for all the students

So we've got students from different universities, institutions , and they've got their different industry sponsors. So when we sit together we act as a think tank. Different ideas, different nationalities, different expertise and when we talk it's like the exchange of ideas. It's very exciting for me.

I think that this program is quite different because it's not just theoretical research or academic research. It combines industry exposure. You can choose a topic that really interests you. That is the real value of it.
