Sermon Synopsis … When someone asks the question, "Who is the greatest?," it's natural to ponder what criteria we would use to answer the question. What makes a person great? Skill, beauty, brains, charisma, physical prowess, moral courage, tenacity? When Jesus' disciples were arguing over which of them was the greatest, Jesus offered a surprising answer: He called a child over and said to his disciples, "If someone welcomes this kid, they get me also. I come with the kid. And God comes with me. The kid brings the greatness of God into your space." Jesus turned the question of greatness on its head. "Who is the greatest?" gets turned into, "How good are you at recognizing greatness." If you're really good at seeing, you will see that every human has an essential connection with God which makes every human great and makes some of our rankings irrelevant.
