History & Architecture — Originally built during the Ayutthaya period and significantly reconstructed by Kings Rama II and III in the early 19th century, Wat Arun stands out with its towering central prang (spire), symbolizing Mount Meru in Hindu‑Buddhist cosmology. The temple’s central prang reaches approximately 66.8–86 meters and is covered in ornate pieces of Chinese porcelain used as ballast on trading ships.

What to See & Do — Begin by walking around the central prang, where devotees often perform a clockwise ritual with candles and incense to reflect on Buddhist teachings. Climb the steep steps for panoramic views of the river, Wat Pho, and the Grand Palace across the river. Watch the guardian statues and the elaborately decorated ordination hall with Buddha images and detailed murals, featuring artistry from King Rama II’s reign.

Best Times & Tips — Wat Arun is especially stunning at sunset when floodlights illuminate its porcelain spires. To avoid crowds, aim to arrive early in the day or just before closing at 6 PM   .
