"HMS Glorious was already built as a large light cruiser during World War I. Glorious, her sister HMS Courageous, and half-sister HMS Furious were designed to be light cruiser destroyers. She was converted into an aircraft carrier after World War I.

"On the night of June 7/8, 1940, HMS Glorious, under command of Captain Guy DOyly-Hughes, took aboard her ten Gloster Gladiators and eight Hawker Hurricanes, flown from land bases to keep them from being destroyed in the evacuation of Norway. HMS Glorious was part of a troop convoy headed for Scapa Flow, also including carrier HMS Ark Royal. HMS Glorious requested and granted permission to proceed independently and at faster speed.

"While sailing through the Norwegian Sea, the carrier and her two escorts, destroyers HMS Acasta and HMS Ardent, were intercepted by the German battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. All three vessels were sunk in two hours with great loss in life. As the evacuation was extremely secret, the HMS Glorious did not, or would not, send a distress signal.

"HMS Glorious took with her over 1200 personnel."

I will admit, probably not one of my best, along with the HMS Vanguard tribute. Tired, sleep deprived, and feeling sick probably didn't help much. Perhaps one day I'll go back over and see if I can rework some stuff with it.
