Slow. A gentle journey of discovery through and above an English wildflower meadow in late summer.

"Slow" is a gentle journey through a small wild area of meadow and scrubland as an English summer drifts lazily towards autumn. The camera, often moving in slow motion explores a macro world of insects and butterflies, passing faded golden grasses and the rich aubergine coloured seed heads of lesser hogweed. Late summer flowers such as greater knapweed and the much maligned ragwort, offer bees and hoverflies a vital source of nectar. In this close up world you can see the hoverfly's proboscis working in a strikingly similar way to an elephants trunk as it feeds on a knapweed flower and the wings of skipper, small copper and speckled wood butterflies looking as if they are covered in a fine luxurious fur.
From above we see the landscape bathed in the misty golden light of a late August sunrise and later on in our journey we see the mellow wash of the low sun as it casts its last long shadows of the day before disappearing behind a pastel blue grey cloudscape.
I hope you can find a few minutes to watch the whole of this video, its deliberately slow paced so there's time to take in some of the beauty and detail in what may appear to be a quite unremarkable world, but is in fact teeming with life.
