The supreme court today said that a larger group of judges would examine the constitutional validity of section 377 of the IPC, a law that criminalises sexual activities "against the law of nature" and re-considering over homosexuality in India. While the Congress has off lately been advocating for the striking down of Section 377, it is a matter of record that across the political and ideological spectrum politicians have refused to slice down the anti-LGBT law. The BJP, though, is yet to make its proper stand on the matter officially. Though in 2017 BJP senior leaders like Rajnath Singh to Arun Jaitley spoke openly in support of abolishing section 377. So where do the legal proceedings on section 377 lie now? The matter is presently in the hand of the Supreme Court, which has constituted a five member bench to hear the reconsideration.
