Christian Heritage Academy, Illinois - Dr. Wayne Grudem and his wife, Margaret, are among Christian Heritage Academy’s five founding families, who had a dream and a calling from the Lord to establish a Christian school on the North Shore of Chicago in 1984. Now, as we celebrate our 35th year, we also celebrate the faithfulness of the Grudems and many other families over the years who have invested in the mission of CHA.
"It all began with a dream and a prayer… that only God could answer and make real.
Today, Christian Heritage Academy (Illinois) is an ACSI-accredited Christian school from pre-kindergarten through high school, with 380 students, drawing from over 45 Chicago area communities and 110 churches. CHA is a community of families who desire to educate their children within a biblical worldview that reinforces the value of loving God and loving others.
In 1982, five couples, inspired by these principles and the desire to provide children with an excellent education in Chicago’s northern suburbs came together to ask the Lord, “What will it take for our children to develop and maintain lifelong faith in Jesus Christ?"
Within two months, a hundred people gathered at a public interest meeting. Two years later, in the fall of 1984, Christian Heritage Academy opened its doors with 61 students and 5 faculty members, in a rented former public elementary school building in Northbrook, Illinois.
In the following decade, the ever-increasing enrollment brought the need for a larger facility, and in 1994, CHA purchased our current location, the 15-acre Marillac High School in Northfield. The expansive facility, and its many amenities, has inspired continued growth in enrollment and has expanded our programs in music, theater, and athletics.
In 1996 a preschool was added to the K-8 program, as well as a college preparatory high school in 2009, both of which have enhanced our ability to further serve Christian families. With scores ranked among the top schools in our area, and our upper school is ranked as the #1 Christian high school in Illinois, and our students are regularly being admitted to the finest universities in the country. Most importantly, we have stayed focused on our mission to raise lifetime followers of Jesus Christ, with hundreds of graduates positively impacting the world.
From its inception, Christian Heritage Academy’s programming has included a commitment to academic excellence in an atmosphere designed to nurture each child’s individual gifts and spiritual development. Highly qualified, spiritually mature teachers serve as mentors and role models, encouraging students in their walk with Christ as they gain academic proficiency.
As we look ahead to the next 35 years, we are committed to holding fast to our founding principles.
Together, we are a community of Christian families and churches from all over Chicagoland, united in purpose.
Together, we believe God has called Christian parents to build a new generation of Christian men and women as servant leaders.
Together, we are Christian Heritage Academy. "
"As we remain faithful to the founding vision of the school, remain faithful to our Lord and continue to seek Him, I truly believe that our best days are still ahead." - Dr. Hutz Hertzberg, President of Christian Heritage Academy, Illinois.
