George RR Martin is famous for the depth and detail of his worldbuilding in Westeros and Essos from his A Song of Ice and Fire series alongside Fire and Blood, The Tales of Dunk and Egg, and The World of Ice and Fire. What makes the worldbuilding so great? What can we learn from George RR Martin? How can writers make worlds as effective as his? Lots and lots and lots of detail is the obvious answer but what if there's more to it than that? I've found 5 key aspects that I think make the world of ASOIAF so absorbing.

My Little Thought Tree is my channel for drawing out the deeper meaning and emotion in film, TV, and the world at large through relaxed, analytical video essays. I am a professional counsellor and often draw on my psychology and therapy background to better understand characters, themes, and emotion in fiction. I upload every Saturday and occasionally on Tuesdays, if I'm feeling productive.
