Mauritius, 1979

A visit to Mauritius in 1979 with Anil and Dutt Biltoo, touring the island and visiting many branches of the family. It was a wonderful trip. This standard 8mm effort does not do justice to the wonderful time we had - I clearly learnt little from my father about cinematography - but it does show some wonderful sights. It's a slow burner - mercifully the wonders of digitisation and Youtube enable you to skip the duller bits, unless you are enjoying the sounds. Or perhaps the slow pace of the film is in keeping with the pace of life on that beautiful island. It gets a bit better about 8 minutes in, when an array of cousins can be seen enjoying a party on the beach. The film ends with about 2 minutes of Anil trying to draw cartoons in Ian's room but clearly finding the cine camera a distraction. Ian was clearly keen to use up the last roll and get the film in for processing. Happy days.
