Doug Tallamy is a Professor of Entymology at the University of Delaware and a longtime advocate ot taking action to reverse the decline of biodiverstiy on Earth. His published works include Bringing Nature Home, Nature's Best Hope, and The Nature of Oaks. In this video he investigates the causes of accelerating worldwide species extinction—climate change, loss of habitat from overdevelopment and agricultural expansion, the use of pesticides, gardening and landscaping with invasive species, light polution...in other words, a lot of destructive human activity. AND he points the way for all of us to help save life on Earth: "How we landscape determines how much life the Earth can sustain." Removing lawns and non-native plants from our property and then creating and maintaining a living habitat for local birds, insects, and animals will protect all species—including homo sapiens. We are part of nature, and we depend on it for our survival. Dr. Tallamy shares some resources we can use to make headway on this journey. And he shares his vision for Homegrown National Park, an online community where people who are transforming their gardens into habitats can document their success and see how other people all over the country are participating in this radical [from the Latin adjective radicalis, which means "of or relating to a root"] movement.
