(6 Apr 2016) Members of Iceland’s opposition parties are furious at the ongoing political stalemate as the nation awaits the outcome of coalition talks to name a new prime minister.
The two coalition allies, the exiting Prime Minister's Progressive Party and the Finance Minister’s Independence Party, must reach an agreement over who will lead the small Nordic island-nation.
If negotiations do succeed, the President of Iceland will be able to official nominate a new prime minister.
However, opposition parties say they will table a vote of no-confidence in Parliament and call for new elections.
Iceland's prime minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson stepped down on Tuesday over revelations he had used a shell company to shelter large sums while Iceland's economy was in crisis.
