I chanced upon some friendly birdwatchers who showed me this parrot feeding on the edge of the rainforest in the Atherton Tablelands in far North Queensland. I used my 200mm lens and then cropped in 2 - 2.5 times in my editing software, Resolve Studio, to show you the bird up close. While I was filming, it was a bit like looking for a green bird in a green forest, everything is manually focused on my camera so I needed to be careful to get the shots right. Double-eyed fig parrots blend in so well with the foliage, it was easy to miss seeing them, but yes, there was a little feathered person high up in the tree I just had to really look closely.
Females have yellowish lighter coloured cheek patch, this one is a male, they have red cheek patches. (C) A. Jones, all rights reserved.
