President Daniel arap Moi was declared the winner Sunday (4/1)
in Kenya's presidential elections as late results indicated his
Kenya African National Union (KANU) would win a slim majority in
parliament over the combined opposition.

number of votes was elected as member of parliament for central
and has received a mimimum of thirty-five per cent in the entire
votes caste in at least five of the eight provinces of the
Republic of Kenya it is hereby declared that he is elected the
President of the Republic of Kenya";

citizens. They are going to rule them by force so he will have
no moral authority whatsoever.";
SOT Ngilu reacting to announcement (in English): We gave Moi
and the Electoral Commission the benefit of doubt and they asked
to go out and vote and we did. But we did not know that Moi and
the Colonel? had rigged elections to this extent. And the
observers the international observers have not helped the
situation have not helped at all.";
