PPI`s have been around for 20 years and are widely prescribed to people with reflux symptoms, however 30% of patients have unsatisfactory results using them. They work by suppressing stomach acid, but do not supress bile acid, pepsin or bacteria, which can be present. Phil discusses new studies in to the use and effectiveness of P-Cabs, bile acid suppressants and mucosal protection alginate's in suppressing patients reflux symptoms. There remain gaps in current treatments, and the new options require further study and data.
