Major Mohit Sharma was one of the most fearless and brilliant commandos of the Indian Army’s elite Parachute Regiment. Born in 1978 in Rohtak, he joined the Army in 1999 after rigorous training at NDA and IMA.
His most extraordinary achievement was an undercover mission where he infiltrated terrorist networks in Kashmir under the alias “Iftikhar Bhatt.” His intelligence gathering and strategic operations helped the Army neutralize multiple terror modules.

Major Sharma received the COAS Commendation (2004) and the Sena Medal (2005). On 21 March 2009, during a fierce encounter in the Hafruda forests of Kupwara, he eliminated four terrorists and saved his team—making the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
For his unmatched courage, he was posthumously awarded India’s highest peacetime gallantry award, the Ashok Chakra.

His story stands as a symbol of bravery, strategy, sacrifice, and patriotism—so powerful that it inspires cinematic adaptations, even though the film “Dhurandhar” is not officially based on his life.
