The Rules for Kiirtana
In the human body there are many structures composed of nád́iis [psychic-energy channels]. We call them cakras or kamalas [lotuses] in Sanskrit. In Latin a cakra is called a “plexus”. From these main centres, all the psychic-energy channels are controlled. The plexus at the highest point of the human body controls one thousand propensities. “One thousand” is sahasra in Sanskrit, so that plexus is called the sahasrára cakra. That plexus controls all activities of human body.

In order to perform sádhaná, human beings will have to concentrate their minds on different plexi. From the sahasrára to the anáhata [mid-point of the chest], there are certain plexi, and one’s mind is to be concentrated on one of them according to one’s saḿskára [reaction in potentiality], or according to necessity. If human beings want to do ávarta kiirtana(1) after hearing a spiritual discourse, it will be good if they concentrate their minds on the sahasrára cakra. If they want to do kiirtana alone, the mind should be concentrated on the trikut́ii [concentration point of the ájińá cakra, between the eyebrows].
