We are big flan lovers in my house. It’s a dessert I’ve carried with me from childhood, enjoying it at my Grandma’s. While I don’t have time to make it myself these days, I do love a good commercial option, which can be surprisingly hard to find. So you can imagine my excitement when I spotted the El Exquisito Sabor Caramel Flan.

Firstly, my grandma always made them in individual sizes, but I’m loving and all here for this whopping 3 lb. flan, especially since my husband tends to eat more than his fair share, as it’s one of his favorite desserts. I was a little worried about the texture on something this large, but they actually nailed it and I was pleasantly surprised.

The custard was rich and creamy with a subtle vanilla note that complemented the dessert without overpowering it. It reminded me of crème brûlée, though thicker and slightly denser, giving it a satisfying bite while still melting in your mouth. Truly indulgent and authentic.

Despite its massive size, the flan was perfectly smooth and silky. When sliced, you could see faint striations, which is completely normal in a larger flan, but every bite was creamy and cohesive, just like a traditional flan should be. It was slightly denser than smaller flans, which makes sense given the 3 lb. size, but it still had the right balance of firmness and delicate jiggle, melting beautifully on the tongue.

The caramel topping was golden-brown and glossy, with a slight bitterness that is actually normal in properly caramelized sugar. This subtle roasted-sugar note balanced the sweetness of the custard beautifully, adding depth and complexity that makes every bite satisfying without being overly sweet.

Overall, the El Exquisito Sabor Caramel Flan impressed us on every level. From the authentic flavor and smooth texture to the perfectly balanced caramel, it feels homemade even in its commercial form. For flan lovers like us, it’s a big, indulgent treat that hits all the right notes, and we’ll definitely be enjoying it again.
