STORYLINE:
Women marched in protest in Owo on Tuesday after the southern Nigerian town was devastated by an attack on a church days earlier which killed at least 38 people.
A tribal leader was at the front of the march as they chanted to Ogun, the god of iron, saying he would take revenge against those responsible for the attack.
"We are here to say enough is enough," said Yemi Mahmud as she joined the demonstration.
The Owo kingdom's monarch also brought together ethnic leaders for discussions as he expressed his fears the violence could escalate further.
Five children were among the dead after the gunmen with explosives raided the St. Francis Catholic Church in the town in Ondo state.
Nigeria, Africa's most populous country with 206 million people, has grappled for more than a decade with an insurgency in the northeast by the Islamic extremist rebels of Boko Haram and its offshoot, the Islamic State West Africa Province.
The country now is confronted by growing insecurity problems as separatists and pirates are blamed for attacks in the country’s south while armed groups frequently launch deadly attacks in the northwest.
Before the church attack, Ondo had been considered one of Nigeria's most peaceful states.
