Can a Drone DESTROY a Paraglider? | Avery Flies

When ‪@TuckerGott‬ had a drone fly THROUGH his lines, I nearly had a heart attack! But then I realized, nobody really knows what happens when a drone hits a paraglider... So, I teamed up with the best drone pilot I know, ‪@flyinbryanfpv‬, to bring you the most in-depth paraglider vs. drone content youtube has ever seen! We go through theoretical tests, mimicking hits to individual lines stressed as if they are in flight, and practical tests - up to and including puncturing the fabric of a glider with a 40,000 RPM drone propeller!

So, is it safe to crash a drone into a paraglider? In short, no. But it's more likely to tangle a line than break one, which Bryan and I both found surprising. We only broke 1 line in our static load test, and it was unsheathed with some unusually thin and aggressive props. Damage to lines seems to be mostly RPM related, where slower, thicker, larger and more efficient propellers do less damage than small, thin, high-RPM ones. Our tests have also shown that modern line technology has created some pretty tough strings for us bedsheet fliers, which is another good reason to retire old gliders.
