Charles Barkley said the NBA should cancel the season. Shaq said the NBA should cancel the season. It is rare that those two agree on anything and that’s a bad sign if you want to see the league return. The NBA suspended games on March 11th and every day that passes without a plan to return looks bad for restarting the season. Commissioner Adam Silver recently had a call with players explaining a path to returning to play and the NBPA texted their players to get an unofficial poll on whether they want to risk it. The NBA should return this season and this video breaks down the details.

The NBA has never seen a year like 2020. The drama started with Daryl Morey’s tweet that offended the entire country of China, tragedy struck when Kobe Bryant and his traveling party perished in a helicopter crash then the global pandemic stopped the season. Along with canceling the season, Shaq thinks the winner would have an asterisk on their banner. That opinion is way out of line. The team that raises a 2020 banner should be proud to have come out on top after everything the league had to endure. Every team will play under the same limited circumstances and all is fair for every team.

LeBron James says he wants to play and so does Ja Morant. The likely Rookie of the Year tweeted that he wants to return but risk does exist. If the players and management decide the risk is worth the financial and human reward then the NBA should go for it and that is the correct decision in the end.
