When I was in high school there was a big hardcore/punk/emo scene in Louisville, Kentucky and the surrounding area that I dipped my toes into. I went to a lot of local shows and was friends with people in bands, but I really missed the opportunity to immerse myself in it as much as I could have because I was such a staunch metalhead at the time. I've since corrected that mistake.

Destroy the Machines was pretty crucial to my acceptance of hardcore and punk; it was loaned to me (along with the Firestorm EP and Cleansing by Prong) by a classmate, and Born of Pain immediately drew me in. I was familiar with Biohazard at the time, but this was a different beast, it was just undiluted aggression.
