In 1941, following Toscanini's temporary withdrawal from the NBC Symphony, Leopold Stokowski was appointed the orchestra's chief conductor for three seasons. He performed many new works in his programmes but he also included many classics. Among these was a white-hot reading of Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony in 1944. Pristine Audio has recently discovered some excellent source material from those war-time NBC broadcasts and here, as a 'sampler,' is the"Pathetique" Symphony's exciting 3rd movement.
