Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif addressed the launching ceremony of Economic Governance Reforms, outlining the government’s journey of economic stabilization and reform amid severe inherited challenges.

The Prime Minister stated that when the government assumed office, Pakistan’s economy was facing grave difficulties. Despite these obstacles, the government adopted decisive and difficult reforms to steer the country back onto the right path.

Highlighting concrete achievements over the past two years, the Prime Minister noted that inflation declined sharply from 29.2% to 4.5%, foreign exchange reserves increased from $9.2 billion to $21.2 billion, and the current account deficit turned into a $1.9 billion surplus. He further added that Pakistan has achieved a primary surplus, narrowed the fiscal deficit, crossed a tax-to-GDP ratio of 10%, added over one million new taxpayers, and recorded 26% growth in tax collection in 2025.
