BRITISH TV and film actress Emma Chambers has died aged 53, her agency confirmed this afternoon.The popular star is best known for playing loveable Alice Tinker in the long-running BBC sitcom The Vicar of Dibley.The Doncaster-born actress also had roles in Notting Hill and the TV adaptation of Martin Chuzzlewit.Her exact cause of death has not yet been announced - but she is known to have suffered from asthma and had severe allergies to most animals.Jon Plowman — the show’s executive producer and ex- BBC head of comedy — said he believed she had suffered a heart attack.He told Radio 4: “It’s no age to have a heart attack, as I understand it.“Emma was a gifted comic actress who made any part she played look easy.She was adored by the cast and crew.” A statement from her agency said Chambers died from natural causes and that she would be "greatly missed".It said: "Emma created a wealth of characters and an immense body of work.She brought laughter and joy to many." She captured international attention for her secondary role in the 1999 Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts comedy Notting Hill.In the movie, she plays Honey, Hugh Grant's little sister and the romantic interest of Rhys Ifans' character Spike.Hugh Grant, who starred alongside Emma in Notting Hill, led tributes this afternoon, saying: “Emma Chambers was a hilarious and very warm person and of course a brilliant actress.Very sad news.” And broadcaster Emma Freud tweeted: "Our beautiful friend Emma Chambers has died at the age of 53.We're very very sad."She was a great, great comedy performer, and a truly fine actress.And a tender, sweet, funny, unusual, loving human being." James Dreyfus, who starred alongside Chambers in Notting Hill paid tribute on Twitter.He said: "RIP the wonderful and talented Emma Chambers.Unique & unspeakably funny.Too young.Thoughts with her family." Richard Shotcroft, the film producer, said: “RIP the wonderful Emma Chambers - best known for The Vicar of Dibley but also stole every scene in Notting Hill.Only 53.” And Jeremy Clarkson wrote: "I'm sad about Emma Chambers.Knew her when she was a kid in Doncaster.She was very funny." In 1998, Emma won the British Comedy Award for best TV actress for her performance in Dibley.Chambers is survived by her husband, fellow actor Ian Dunn.The Vicar Of Dibley, also written by Curtis, originally ran from 1994 to 1998 but returned for numerous festive and comic relief specials with the latest episode airing as recently as 2015.She starred in the show from 1994 to 2007.We pay for your stories!
