Spice Cafe for 44NEWS Taste Tuesday (2016)

Looking back to a post from 2016! Who remembers Spice Café on Evansville's East side?

It was a Caribbean / Creole / Southern Comfort food restaurant located at 6840 Logan Drive (north of Lowe's and west of White Castle). This is the current location of Frankie's Restaurant.

The owner was a gentleman named Ilya who was a Chicago native that ended up here in Evansville. He had never been in the restaurant industry before, but had a passion for cooking and making people smile with his culinary creations.

That day we sampled a little bit of everything available on the limited opening menu, which included:
Bourbon street chicken and rice with collard greens
Jamaican jerk pulled chicken sandwich
Cuban tenderloin sandwich
Charcoal grilled Jamaican jerk chicken pieces with mashed potatoes, green beans and collard greens.

Did you ever visit this local restaurant? They were only open for about 8 months, holding a soft opening June 20th, 2016 and closing Feb. 23rd, 2017.
