Welcome from Swiss Reformed Pfarrer Martin Rüsch (Grossmünster)
Dear guests, sisters and brothers in Christ from near and far,
As pastor here at the Grossmünster and on behalf of the Reformed Church in the city and canton of Zurich, I want to warmly welcome you to this worship service commemorating the 500th anniversary of the global Anabaptist movement! It is a great honor for us that this joyful service can take place here in the Grossmünster - a wonderful setting steeped in history. This setting, however, has not only been a site of liberating reform, but also of pain. From today's perspective, it is hard to understand why a shared orientation toward the Gospel in the sixteenth century resulted in a painful division. Yet that reality makes the celebration of our reconciliation today all the more important and beautiful, in the sure knowledge that the treasure of the Gospel, the vibrant grace of God, is in our midst. Living out of this reality, especially in a world beset by worry and fear, will remain our important and common task.
So we rejoice that we begin rooted in his Word: “Grace and peace be with us, from God our Father and our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.”
