2024 BYD Seal 06 DM-i in-depth Walkaround

The BYD Seal 06 DM-i, featuring the fifth-generation PHEV technology, has recently launched in China. Although it shares the same platform as the Qin L, it adopts the design language of the BYD Ocean series and draws visual inspiration from the Seal, which debuted in 2022. The Seal 06 sports a predominantly closed front with a low grille and semi-hidden door handles. At the rear, it boasts a through taillight cluster on the trunk lid, with the BYD logo that illuminates at night. The car's dimensions are 4830 mm in length, 1875 mm in width, and 1495 mm in height, with a wheelbase measuring 2790 mm. It features a MacPherson suspension at the front and an innovative E-type four-link independent suspension at the rear.

Inside, the Seal 06 carries forward the distinctive Ocean series aesthetic, incorporating design elements seen in the dashboard and doors. It is equipped with a rotating 15.6-inch central infotainment screen and an 8.8-inch LCD instrument screen. Standard features include six airbags, ETC, mobile phone NFC key, automatic air conditioning, one-touch window control for the driver’s side, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a minimum of six speakers.

The Seal 06 DM-i, along with the Qin L, introduces BYD's new fifth-generation DM system. This plug-in hybrid system is centered around a 1.5-liter engine producing a maximum power of 74 kW and 126 Nm of torque. The lower-spec versions offer an 80 km all-electric range (CLTC), powered by a 10.08 kWh battery and a 120 kW electric motor delivering 210 Nm of torque. The higher-spec versions come with a 15.874 kWh battery, extending the electric range to 120 km (CLTC) and utilize the more potent 160 kW EHS160 motor with 260 Nm of torque. Fuel consumption rates are 2.9 liters per 100 km in NEDC mode and 10.7 kWh per 100 km in CLTC mode.
