The REN protocol was previously called republic protocol, and this was designed to provide interoperability where people can transfer cryptocurrencies across different blockchains. Ren also provides liquidity between multiple blockchains. With a max supply of 1 billion REN and a circulating supply of 999,999,633 REN, it is predicted to cross approx $3.5 by the beginning of 2024. The ren token plays two important roles in the ren protocol, and as expected, ren is also the utility coin in the ren network that facilitates the payments for transactions made in the virtual machine.

RenVM or ren virtual machine is what powers that ren protocol and this virtual machine is a decentralized network of machines called the dark nodes. These machines are rewarded using the fees generated from facilitating exchanges for their contribution of computing power and storage space to the virtual machine. These machines are responsible for the movement of cryptocurrencies across the blockchains. Means this virtual machine acts as a trustless custodian for your crypto assets and for this to work and at the same time maintaining the privacy of the users.

Shamir's Secret Sharing, secure multiparty algorithm and the third one is the byzantine fault tolerance, these schemes are used to secure a secret in a distributed way, to developers' code to run without revealing the inputs and outputs and help the REN network to function effectively even if the nodes go down.
